At just ten years old, Alicia has been a young carer for her disabled mum, for as long as she can remember. From preparing food and drinks, to helping with the chores, Alicia is a capable young girl, who longs for a best friend.

When an operation looms for her mum, Alicia has stay with her slightly eccentric Aunt Josie in her small ground floor flat and attend the local school.

Unused to children, her aunt has a lot to learn, and punctuality, baking, nor getting up in the morning are top of her agenda. 

When Mrs Buttercup announces a ‘Bring Your Pet to School Day’ the fun really begins. Will Alicia be able to borrow a pet in time, or will she have to watch from the side lines?
